Dashboard Warning Lights and their Meaning

Keeping your vehicle well maintained is important. You may notice though that the dashboard warning lights will illuminate. When this happens, it is important to bring the vehicle in as soon as possible so we can inspect it for what the issue might be. Warning symbols are normally in red. They indicate a potential problem or safety issue that should be checked by us so we can diagnose it correctly. If you notice the temperature warning light, it can mean your coolant is overheating. Quickly pull over and let your car cool down or the heat can destroy your car’s engine. The symbol also comes in blue which means the coolant temperature is below what is needed for optimum performance. It normally pops up when you start up your car in the morning and the symbol should disappear once the vehicle warms up.   If the engine oil pressure warning light is on, it may mean your engine has lost normal oil pressure. It could be something as simple as being low on oil, or it could be an indication of serious engine problems. The trouble is, you don’t know whether the problem is serious or no big deal, so the best course of action is to pull over immediately, turn off your engine, and call for an appointment. If you replace the oil often, it could mean there is a serious leak. You should never run your vehicle without oil in it, so make sure this issue is fixed as soon as possible.   If you notice the battery charge light illuminate, the first thing you should do is turn off anything that draws power from the battery, except for the headlights if you are driving at night. This includes the air conditioning and heating system, the stereo, any interior lights, and any accessories such as heated seats or heated mirrors. Do not turn your car off until you get to somewhere safe, just in case it doesn’t start again. If the vehicle becomes hard to start, make sure to bring it in, so we can inspect and test the battery for you.

The Importance of a Cabin Filter

The cabin filter in your vehicle is responsible for filtering the air before it enters the vehicle’s cabin. The cabin air filter catches pollen, dust, dirt and other impurities from the air, keeping the air purified for the vehicle and its passengers. It is important to keep the cabin air filter clean so when the heater or air conditioner is running, the air being emitted is quality air. The cabin air filter should be replaced every 15,000 to 30,000 miles or as needed. A cabin air filter cleans air entering your car through the car’s air, heater, and air conditioner vents. The concentration of unfiltered pollutants inside your vehicle can be more than six times higher than the outside air. The air filter helps to remove any air pollutants that can cause health problems. When you replace the cabin filter, you can help improve the air for the occupants in the vehicle, as well as improving the air quality in the cabin of the vehicle. A cabin filter will help to filters out 99.5% of airborne dust, pollen mold spores, and bacteria particles. This will help to keep the air in the vehicle in the best condition possible, while also making sure it is easy to breathe. You may also notice if there is an issue with the cabin filter based on how much air is produced from the vents. If it seems like not a lot is being produced or blown out, it could be caused by a poor cabin filter. If you ever notice an issue with the filter or anything else for your vehicle, make sure to contact us as soon as possible. By fixing the issue at the first sign, you can help keep the vehicle operating in the best condition possible, without a costly repair bill in the long run.

Taking Care of the Windshield Wipers

When you own a vehicle, you want it to be operating at top performance levels, as well as having the parts of the vehicle in the best condition possible. This should include inspecting the tires of the vehicle, fluid levels and oil, and also the windshield wipers. The windshield wipers are often forgotten about until they need to be used. This can cause problems because the wipers will help you see the road ahead of you and any vehicles, animals, or objects that might be in the way. With poor visibility, the chance for an accident increases.     The wipers should be checked regularly to ensure that the blades and arm are in efficient working condition. If you notice any wear or tear on the wipers, make sure to have them replaced as soon as possible. If the wipers make a noise when cleaning the windshield, or leave smear marks, it could indicate that they are wearing and will need to be replaced soon. The wipers will no long be able to clear the windshield efficiently, leading to impair visibility because it will not clean it completely.     Anytime that you notice something might be caught on the windshield, like a rock, chunk of ice, or other object, make sure to pull over as soon as it is safe to do so and remove it. If you continue to operate the windshield wipers with that stuck, you can wear out the wipers, as well as increase the chance you scratch the windshield. This can lead to an increased repair bill in the long run.     Also remember to fill up the reservoir with washer fluid. By doing so, you will have enough incase you need to use it to clean off the windshield when you drive. If you notice that you have to replace it often, it can indicate a leak for it. Make sure to bring the vehicle in and we can inspect it for you. Having the best visibility possible is important for your safety, as well as those around you, so make sure to check the windshield wipers regularly this winter.

Why Regular Maintenance is Important

It is important to bring your vehicle in for regular scheduled maintenances. By doing so, you can help to keep your vehicle in the most reliable condition possible. Regular maintenances can also help to maintain the resale value of your vehicle. Maintenance schedules are developed by the manufacturer to recommend requirements for each particular model of vehicle. Going to scheduled maintenances can reduce the chance of a larger repair bill down the road. Finding an issue while it is small can be fixed more cost efficiently than if it grows into a much larger issue.     Having maintenance done on your vehicle means keeping all the systems and features functioning as closely as possible to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Routine maintenance should be an ongoing process for the vehicle. It can also help your vehicle to start, run, and stop effectively. It can also maximize the amount of performance and reliability. Between visits you can inspect the vehicle to look for any signs of damage or wear. If you notice anything, make sure to bring your vehicle in as soon as possible.     If you neglect to go to regular scheduled maintenances, you may be doing more harm than you realize. One reason you might procrastinate going to scheduled maintenances is because of the cost. Unfortunately, if you do not bring your vehicle in for scheduled inspections, it may lead to a much higher repair bill. Sometimes signs like squeaking brakes may mean there is an issue with the brake system. If ignored, you might be running the risk for an accident. Small issues with your vehicle left unrepaired can lead to increased damage to your vehicle. Fixing one issue is much easier than fixing severe damage to other parts of your vehicle.     Having regular maintenance done on your vehicle can benefit it in several ways. The tires are one of the most important parts to the vehicle. Always make sure to check for any signs of wear. If they look worn or damaged, make sure to get the tires replaced. The oil should be inspected and changed regularly. By having regular oil changes done, you can help to prevent making costly engine repairs later. The oil filter should also be changed regularly. The battery will be inspected to make sure it is firmly anchored in place. It should also be clear of any corrosion on the battery and terminal posts. The brakes will be inspected to make sure they are in the best operating condition possible.
